To dream…the impossible dream…
To fight…the unbeatable foe
To bear…with unbeatable sorrow…
To run…where the brave dare not go…
To right…the unrightable wrong…
To love…pure and chaste from afar…
To try…when your arms are too weary…
To reach…the unreachable star…
This is my quest to, follow that star…
A little background, for the last twenty five plus years I have been investing in real estate. As a realtor, designer, wife, and Mother of three, I always changed my homes aesthetics. At the same time, helping my clients realize their real estate dreams. Since then “flipping” homes for profit has become a big trend.
Obsessed with aesthetics, from dreamy bathrooms, wine rooms, walk-in closets, gourmet kitchens, built-in coffee bar… I could go on. Designing a lifestyle has been my signature brand. My ideas take shape in environments that are visual pleasing. Everything you touch should be beautiful. Initially, when starting a design, my process is driven by day-to-day habits and routines. Where form meets function. Then of course a lot of research and planning. Overall, my philosophy is aesthetics; combining art and function.
A cozy home wraps your mind body and soul in comfort. That is luxury. Home is your sanctuary. A blissful retreat from the outside world. A beautiful home has the very best spaces custom designed for you and your family. A coffee bar where you can enjoy a custom cup of coffee or an area designated to create and engage in your passions. We all have different wants and needs. What are some of yours?
My desire for you is to dream the impossible dream. When you see something or frequent a place analyze why you like it so much. Save the pleasing images you find on social media, movies or in magazines. Create a plan for your projects. Invite in your personal style and taste. Say yes to a space that is uniquely yours. Then think of your daily life and how you function in your home. What is needed? Then bump it up to the next level, the next creative level. Not necessarily financially but use your creative muscle. Finally, start implementing these key features into your home. This can be big to small or small to big. Start, as it is the only way you can finish!
Create a checklist of these main features and components. As a real estate professional and designer, together, we will find your dream lifestyle and home.
Here is what I have been doing lately…
After many visual encounters with kitchen hoods, I have so many favorites. The luxury trend lately is metal, brass, bronze and copper kitchen hoods. See my previous post for a visual. Stone and stucco have been a constant thread in style. Especially in high-end luxury homes. Many kitchen hoods are made with wood, drywall or a foam designed to look like a variation of any of the above. The function of the kitchen hood is light and a venting system over the cooktop.
Sometimes you need to be innovative to find your kitchen hood solution. I did. Investing in style, form and function is the plan. Creating a space that is uniquely beautiful on trend but within budget is the goal!
Step One:
Don’t be afraid! Customize it! Either you build it like I did or have it built. Or you could order a hood and install it yourself. If I can do it with zero pro tools other than my favorite Dewalt battery operated screw driver and a hand held saw, powered by yours truly, than you can do it too!
Step Two:
The kitchen hood is one of the premiere architectual features in your kitchen. If you want instant transformation then be quick and remove that microwave from over the cooktop. Also, decide where you will put the microwave. My microwave had a cabinet over it. Visually it was easy to see that a swap could be made. First, by removing a tall kitchen cabinet from another wall in my kitchen and then installing the microwave and cabinet in it’s place.
Step Three:
Decide if you want to build the hood from scratch. I will leave the components I used here for the vent fan with light and the vent kit that you can easily install yourself.
The kitchen hood you choose to build and install will transform your space. Not only will your kitchen look 1000 times better, but you will have the desire to cook in this new open airy concept. The old microwave set up leaves you short armed unable to reach the back burners. It’s just uncomfortable to have your head knocking against a microwave while you cook. Just not a good situation overall. The kitchen hood, need not be a microwave, please!
If you dream it and plan it, in time, it will happen.
XOXO~
